Finding your way around
We hope to make your visit to the National Gallery on-line shop as easy and pleasurable as possible. You may wish to browse generally or in a particular area of the shop, or you may know exactly what you're looking for and wish to go straight to that item.
Browsing
The shop is divided into collections, which are displayed on the navigation on the left hand-side of your screen. Click on any of these collections to be taken to a page containing an illustrative list of products in that category. To see more about any product, click on its image.
Searching
If you know what you are looking for type your query into the search box and click 'go' to see a selection of all products related to your search term, or use the advanced search pull-down menus to select by era (e.g. Impressionist, Renaissance, 13th Century) or by product type (e.g. books, catalogues, posters). From the selection you can then click on any product to see it in more detail and then add it, if you want to, to your shopping basket.
To place an item in your shopping basket
When you have found an item that you would like to purchase, just click on the Add to Basket button, which is found on any page featuring a full description of any product. The item will then be added to your shopping basket. You can then continue to shop by using the back arrow in your menu bar, or by using the navigation on the left of the screen to move to another collection. It is possible to remove items from your shopping basket at any time entering '0' quantity on the Shopping Basket screen and then using the 'update' button.
Viewing your shopping basket
You can view the contents of your shopping basket at any time by clicking on the 'View Basket' link, to check the items already selected, amend quantities or remove products from your basket.
How to order
When you have finished making your selections, simply click on 'view basket', which will then allow you to process your order. A list of the products you have ordered will appear, indicating quantities and cost per item, together with your subtotal, delivery costs, and the total amount of your order. You will then be asked to complete your delivery and payment details. Your order will not be processed until you have checked and confirmed your order on the ‘Confirm & Purchase' screen by clicking on the button ‘Purchase'.
Methods of payment
We accept Visa, Visa Delta, Mastercard and Switch Cards.
Other National Gallery products
We are unable to offer the entire range of National Gallery products in the on-line shop. If you cannot find the item you are looking for, please e-mail us at mailorder@nationalgallery.co.uk
Postage & package charges
UK: Delivery charges are calculated by weight of items ordered, with a maximum charge of £6.99.
International orders: The cost of delivery of International Orders is determined by the weight of the package and varies depending on the destination of the delivery. Delivery costs are divided into two bands depending on the region of destination: Europe or the Rest of the World. If you want to see precisely how much your parcel will cost, select the relevant destination region on the Shopping Basket page. Your delivery costs will also be confirmed on the ‘Confirm & Purchase' screen before you need to decide whether or not to proceed with your purchase.
Delivery times
Deliveries to the UK: We try to deliver all goods within 7 working days of the order being placed.
Some of these packages are delivered by ParcelForce who will not deliver the item if there is no-one present to sign for it. (In such cases they will take the parcel to the ParcelForce depot for collection or delivery on an alternative day.) We strongly recommend that you propose an address where there will always be someone present to sign for the delivery (such as a work address).
Deliveries abroad: Are sent by air mail. Delivery times vary depending on the destination, but we endeavour to have them delivered within 15 working days of the order. Again, we strongly recommend that you propose an address (such as a work address) where there will always be someone present to receive the delivery.
